Rome, 1975. In de nacht van 2 november wordt de bekende Italiaanse dichter en filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini vermoord. Pasolini is het symbool van de kunst die strijdt tegen de macht. Zijn geschriften zijn schandalig, zijn films worden gecensureerd; veel mensen houden van hem en velen haten hem. De dag van zijn dood spendeert Pasolini zijn laatste uren met zijn geliefde moeder en later met zijn beste vrienden, vooraleer hij in zijn Alfa Romeo de nacht inrijdt op zoek naar avontuur in de eeuwige stad. Bij het ochtendgloren wordt Pasolini dood teruggevonden op een strand in Ostia, aan de rand van de stad.
